The soffit is the horizontal part of the roofing system located on the underside of the roof’s overhang. Made of vinyl, wood or aluminum, it is an important component of your home’s exterior and is responsible for helping your home “breathe.” In other words, it has vents to help with air circulation in your attic, resulting in a comfortable indoor temperature.

Consider the Fascia

The soffit is always paired with the fascia, which is the exposed board seen on the front of the roof’s overhang. Given the proximity of both components, it is practical to have them both painted the same color. In doing so, you create a separation between the roofing system and the walls. In terms of curb appeal, it is more aesthetically pleasing.

Then again, a soffit can have a different color from the fascia, which works if your home has an elaborate exterior trim. A great idea would be to paint the fascia with a brighter color, but using a less dominant color for the soffit to create visual contrast. Never overdo it so you can be satisfied with the results.

Consider the Siding

Consider the hues used for the existing elements of the home’s exterior, including the siding and windows, when choosing the color of the soffit. A uniform color should do the trick, which means you don’t have to spend more time just to establish a line to distinguish your home’s walls and soffit. Another alternative would be to match the soffit’s color with the siding, but applying a different one for the fascia.
